Are you an avid creator of machinima related to Blizzard games? Was your Halloween costume from last year a dead ringer for one of the Forsaken from World of Warcraft? Does your Orc breakdance outshine the original? Then it’s time to show off your skills to the world by participating in one of the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational Contests!

Read below about the two featured machinima contests. We will be announcing more details for additional contests during the next few days, so make sure to check back soon if your talents are in dancing, dressing up or creating fan art!

For a long time, the staff at Blizzard has watched enthusiastically as the community pushed movie-making in our games from an unexplored, unproven experiment to a broadly utilized and intricate craft, producing thousands of videos ranging across every genre.

Opportunities such as BlizzCon and other movie contests challenged community artists to push the limits, and time and time again, players stepped up to the plate and delivered memorable works that turned heads not just in the Blizzard community, but in the digital film-making community as a whole.

This year, we hope to invite an even greater response from the machinima community. For the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational, we are asking players to create exclusive machinimas in two categories (see below). Prizes for the winners include high-end equipment, free subscriptions and tickets for the Worldwide Invitational. Make sure to also check out our World of Warcraft machinima page.

1) Movie Contest

Participants in the Machinima Movie Contest are asked to create movies based around World of Warcraft, using the game's graphic engine. You are free to use music from Blizzard games for your movie. Entries to the contest may not be longer than 4 minutes (240 seconds) and can feature any genre (Comedy, Drama, Action/Adventure, Music Video, etc). Let your imagination run wild! High definition video files of the movie and an additional 10-15 second trailer for the actual movie will be required. The best submissions will be featured during the award ceremony on the evening of Saturday, June 28. The full winner movies will be displayed on the official Worldwide Invitational website.

2) TV Advertisement Machinima Contest

Participants to the Machinima short commercial contest will have to create commercials advertising one World of Warcraft item currently in game (weapons, armor, etc). Machinimas must be created using the game's graphic engine. You are free to use music from Blizzard games for your movie. Entries to the contest may not be longer than 40 seconds and must advertise an item from the Warcraft universe. The best submissions will be broadcast during the two days of the Worldwide Invitational. High Definition video files will be required.

Art created by Blizzard players

Participants to the fan art contest will have to submit a fan art image of any character, event, setting, object, or scenario inspired by one of the Blizzard game universes (Diablo, StarCraft, Warcraft). High definition pictures will be required in order to be displayed on the event (only contest winners will be displayed publically). The fan art will also need to be exclusive. The best submissions will be featured during the award ceremony on the evening of Saturday, June 28.

• Submissions must be in digital JPG format with a 1920x1200 pixel resolution, no larger than 3 MB in filesize.

Dressing up for fame & fortune

Participants to the costume contest will have to present themselves in a handmade costume, representing a character or creature issued from Blizzard games. You will be able to present your costume to the Worldwide Invitational visitors and the contests jury live on one of our stages.

Ready to dance?

Participants to the dance contest will have to perform a dance taken from the various dances that can be encountered in World of Warcraft. Their performance will last for about 30 seconds, and it will be accompanied by an appropriate music (generally music that inspired the dance, e.g. Britney Spears – Toxic for the female Blood Elf’s dance). You will be able to show your dance live on a stage in front of jury and audience - pick your race of choice and show us what dancing means!
