Will Blizzard be beta testing World of Warcraft in Europe? How do I sign up?
Yes, we will be testing World of Warcraft in Europe. The goal of this European beta test will be to validate the distribution and hosting infrastructure in Europe. This will allow World of Warcraft to reach the level of quality that has become the signature of every Blizzard product. Signups were conducted from July 5th to July 26th, 2004. Please watch the World of Warcraft site for any news regarding the beta.
Can you tell us more about the beta? Will there be different phases? Will there be an open beta? Will it require an NDA?
Our beta tests have included public participation for several years now, and World of Warcraft will be no exception. The beta test will be done in stages. Participation will not require an NDA. Similarly to how we've conducted beta tests in the past, we will gradually open up the beta to more and more testers in order to gauge server stability and connectivity. While we don't know the total number of beta-testers yet, this will by far be our largest and most extensive beta test ever.
Will there be a Mac version of the beta available?
Yes.
What are the system requirements for the World of Warcraft beta?
NOTE: World of Warcraft has NOT yet been optimized for many hardware configurations. The system requirements are expected to be lower for the final shipping version of the game, specifically in regards to processor speed and video card memory requirements. The system specifications listed below are for the World of Warcraft beta only:
How are beta testers chosen?
Beta testers are chosen according to their system specs, location, and other factors. Qualified beta testers will be mostly selected at random. Our goal is to have a good variety of system types and locations to best test compatibility.
How do I know if I was chosen to be a beta tester?
Beta testers will receive an email confirming their entry into the European beta test program. These emails will contain an Authentication Key as well as instructions on where to download and how to install the World of Warcraft beta client. Please do not contact us to inquire about the status of your beta application; only those who received an email have been admitted into the beta-test program. We will make an announcement on the World of Warcraft site whenever we start a new stage of beta testing and add new testers.
How long will the beta test last?
Historically, beta tests last approximately 2-3 months. Due to the depth and magnitude of the World of Warcraft beta, we expect the beta test to last at least this long. We will notify participants when the beta test is nearing completion.
What if I deleted the email with my Authentication Key or if I have misplaced it?
We are unable to provide additional Authentication Keys for this beta for any reason (whether lost, stolen, or never received). For this reason, please be very careful with your Authentication Key; do not pass it on to anyone for any reason. Please note that Blizzard Entertainment employees will never ask you for this information.
